Just 9 weeks after her 90th birthday, the life of Zita A. Locke (nee Fehrenbach) came to a quiet end on November 9, 2016 in Salem. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, James L. Locke Sr. of Salem; and her son, James L. Locke Jr. (Nancy) of Burlingame, CA; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-laws, nephews, nieces in Oregon. She was predeceased by her sole sibling, Leona Hicks of Livermore, CA.
A devoted and loving wife and mother; and self-proclaimed "party girl", Zita had a long and productive career as a trusted, highly efficient executive secretary. In her professional capacity, she worked for various federal government agencies, including the U.S. Attorney's office in Sacramento, the Veteran's Hospital in Fresno, and the Air Base Commander in Atwater, CA. She hailed from Livermore, CA, but adopted Oregon as her second home in 1988. She was an avid and knowledgeable collector of antiques, a ruthless poker player, and great bridge strategist. She and Jim loved traveling, visiting casinos and most of all, hosting family get-togethers in their lovely home.
Visitation will be Friday, November 18, 1-5 pm, and funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 29, 1 pm, both at Farnstrom Mortuary, 410 Monmouth St, Independence. Private interment will be at Hilltop Cemetery. Memories and condolences at FarnstromMortuary.com.
