Willis "Bill" Clarence Hughes, 89, a resident of Monmouth, passed away on April 5, 2010 in Corvallis.
Bill was born on August 16, 1920, to Willis Hardy and Myrtle Belle (Miller) Hughes in Pekin, Illinois.
He was raised in Pekin where he graduated high school. He joined the Army Air Corp and served as an instructor during World War II in Alamogordo, NM. After the service, he returned to Pekin, and then relocated to New Mexico and later to Texas. He married Wanda (Sathoff) Hughes in 1989and the couple moved to Lebanon, Oregon.
Bill was a carpenter, a minister, and a messianic rabbi and was an honored and much loved preacher in Texas. He enjoyed studying his bible, woodworking and handyman work. Bill was the go-to-guy could do anything.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Laura Hughes of Monmouth; sons Terry Hughes and wife Laura Jean of Alamogordo, NM, Dennis Hughes and wife Delia of Richland, TX; sister Jean Eichelberger of Pekin, IL; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Glenna, and an infant son, Ronald Dwight.
A celebration of life will be held at Praise Assembly on Saturday, April 10, at 3 pm. Memorials may be made to Praise Assembly or Union Gospel Mission in Salem.
