William "Bill" H. Wood
September 27, 1951 - October 28, 2012
Monmouth - William "Bill" H. Wood, 61, of Monmouth, Oregon, joined his Heavenly Father on Sunday, October 28th, 2012. William was born on September 27th, 1951 in Lakeview, Oregon to Jack and Ethel Wood.
Bill was always a caring, loving, adventurous man who loved his family. Growing up he liked to play cowboys and be outside. He graduated from Crater High School in Central Point, Oregon in 1970. During his high school years, Bill played the bass guitar in a band. He then served in The Army National Guard where he traveled to Alaska. Riding motorcycles, listening to rock and roll, camping and being outdoors were important hobbies to him.
After high school he began work at Weyerhauser Forest Products in Klamath Falls, Oregon. During his first marriage he had two sons: Joseph William Wood and Jeremy Jacob Wood. On December 17th, 1983 William married the love of his life Desiree Lynn Davis in Klamath Falls. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Oakland, California LDS temple on October 17th, 1987. When they combined families he gained a son, Jason Adam Campbell and a daughter Ashley Jessica (Campbell) McGuyer. Later Bill worked for the Klamath Falls City School District as a bus driver. Bill and Desiree loved to spend time cheering their children on in sports, scouting, and church activities. As a family they enjoyed shopping, sledding, watching movies, attending church and their children's activities.
In 1997, Bill and Desiree relocated to Monmouth, Oregon and he began work as a bus driver for Cherriot's Transportation in Salem, OR. In his later years he loved to cook, work on his vintage truck, and watch movies and most importantly spend time attending his grandchildren's many activities: soccer, Boy Scouts, dance, baseball, volleyball, basketball and church activities. When his grandkids were over they played toy trucks, read stories, played with Play-Do and rode horses. Attending classic car shows was a favorite past time of William.
Everyone that knew Bill liked him. He was a friendly, kind humble man who had many friends. He was also so courageous in the face of his many health battles. In 1991 he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma and fought it into remission with radiation and chemotherapy until he had a recurrence in 1997 which he battled again and the cancer was in remission. In 2000, he suffered a major heart attack and he had a heart bypass operation performed. By 2007 he was diagnosed with a different form of cancer, Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and he conquered it again. Sadly in 2006, he was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure. Again he continued to have a good attitude and lived his life to the fullest until he succumbed to Congestive Heart Failure.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Desiree Lynn (Davis) Wood of Monmouth, Oregon; sons Joseph William Wood of Anchorage Alaska, Jeremy Jacob Wood of Thermopolis, Wyoming, Jason Adam Campbell (and wife Katherine) of Dallas, Oregon; daughter Ashley Jessica (Campbell) McGuyer (and husband Scott) of Monmouth, Oregon; granddaughters Meaghan, Lauryn and Jacquelynn (JJ) McGuyer of Monmouth, Oregon; grandsons Julian, Elijah and Toby Campbell of Dallas, Oregon; mother Ethel Viola (Huggins) Wood of Medford, Oregon; brother Thomas Wood of Tacoma, Washington; sister Debra (Wood) Ford (and husband Ralph) of Medford, Oregon; Brother-in-law Rick Davis of Klamath Falls, Oregon; Brother-in-law Kevin Davis (and wife Kristine) of Gig Harbor, Washington; Nephews James, Tim and David Wood; Nieces Madeline, Emma and Erin Davis of Gig Harbor Washington; Cousin Tom Darley of Newell, California and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
