Vivian B. Courtney Rose
May 4, 1926 - June 30, 2014
Vivian Courtney Rose was born to Martin (Pete) and Alice Courtney, the eldest and only daughter of four children. Vivian was raised on a farm in El Reno Oklahoma, graduated from El Reno High School. She moved to Oklahoma City with her best friend to work for the Welfare Department. She met Eugene C. Rose (Gene), fresh from the war when he asked to sit in the last seat available on the bus she rode to and from work; although she would say there were other seats availablehe would counter not that he saw. They married in April of 1946 and began their lives and travel in the U S Air Force, they welcomed their son in 1947, adding a daughter to the family in 1955. The Rose family left Oklahoma City in 1949, residing in several states, and Canada before settling in Oregon.
Vivian was proud to be a military wife, supporting enlisted men away from home to home cooked meals and welcoming new families to the base housing neighborhoods. Vivian could break down, pack and set up a household at a moments notice. She and Gene both enjoyed their time leading Boy Scout, Girl Scout and Brownie troops while stationed in Canada. Vivian enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting, reading and rose gardening. She volunteered with her church and was active with the MOPs (Mothers without Partners), and quilting club. She donated many hours, homemade quilts and hand knitted baby clothes to the programs and the local nursing home.
Vivian is preceded in death by her parents, her eldest brother, and her husband. She leaves her son, Daniel E. Rose of New Mexico, her daughter Linda Rose DeLauder of Salem, two brothers Darrold and Leslie Courtney and their families, three grandchildren, two grandchildren by marriage, eight great grandchildren, one great-great grand child and many admiring and loyal friends.
