Virginia OliverosOctober 22, 1973 - August 28, 2019
On August 28, 2019, Virginia passed away at the tender age of 45 surrounded by her parents as she prepared to enter God’s Kingdom to be rejoined with her grandparents and loved ones who preceded her in death.
Virginia was born in Salem, Oregon to Pedro and Virginia Oliveros, originally from San Luis Potosi, Mexico. She was the third child of four siblings that include her brothers, Israel, Fernando (Susana), and Alonso. As a teenager, she was very active in Catholic youth groups and enjoyed participating in fundraisers and retreats. As an adult, she continued to participate in helping others through education, which was her passion.
A graduate of Central High School, Virginia continued her education and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Oregon University in Sociology followed by her Master’s degree in Education. As a bilingual elementary teacher with the Salem-Keizer School District, she taught Kindergarten and 1st grades. She loved teaching and was a no-nonsense educator that set high standards for both herself and her students. Over the course of the years, she took pride when she would hear that her students were to graduate from college.
She taught for 8 years until her health declined due to her ongoing struggle with Type 1 diabetes. For most people, they would have just given up but not Virginia. She was always determined that she would return to teach. Even while enduring this debilitating chronic illness, she worked tirelessly to fulfill her continuing education requirements to return to the classroom. Sadly, she was unable to meet that goal. She challenged herself by actively participating in various cultural and civic Clubs.
Although she led a single life, she always said, “I have 32 children every day”. Virginia’s illness eventually restricted her lifestyle but it never held her back from traveling, shopping, movies, eating out and spending time with her beloved nephew (her pride and joy) Elian. She was “daddy’s little girl”, Mom’s precious daughter and confidant, and her brothers’ best sister. She was loved, she loved in return, she will be missed and she will always be in our hearts.
