Victor Lee Baldwin
July 26, 1938 - July 16, 2011
MONMOUTH - Vic passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, July 16th. He showed great courage and determination in his battle with multiple myloma during the past 8 years.
Victor Lee Baldwin was born hi 1938 in Joplin Missouri. He grew up in Baxter Springs Kansas where he met Ernestine Thompson, the love of his life, hi the 8th grade. They later married in 1961.
Vic graduated from Kansas State College of Pittsburgh and earned a masters degree in Psychology. Then Vic and Ernestine moved to Eugene where Vic completed a doctorate program at the University of Oregon in Psychology. In 1968, Vic and Ernestine moved to Monmouth to raise their family. Vic was the Director of Teaching Research at Western Oregon University for 20 years. He retired hi 1997 and became a snowbird in Palm Springs. Vic was also the chairman of the Helen Keller Advisory Board, a national organization which advocates for people with deaf/blind issues. His professional life was devoted to improving the lives of exceptional children.
Vic was an avid golfer, fisher, hunter and all around outdoorsman. He enjoyed sharing his love for the outdoors with his family. A proud accomplishment of his was being a founder of the Central High School Panther Club and was its first president in 1981.
He is survived by his wife Ernestine, sons Brett (Lori), Bart (Amy), grandchildren Cody, Samantha, Brady and Carson.
A celebration of life will be held July 26th at the Gentle House at Western Oregon University from 2-4 pm. Instead of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Central High School Panther Club in care of Farnstrom Mortuary 410 Monmouth St. Independence, Oregon 97351 who is entrusted with arrangements.
