Theodore “Ted” Wilke, 86, of Stayton, Oregon, died Sunday, November 3, 2019, at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon.
A Celebration of Life is planned on Sunday, December 1, 4 pm at Comfort Suites, 630 Hawthorne St SE, Salem, OR 97301. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, December 14, at Christ Lutheran Church in Columbus, Nebraska with the Rev. Aaron Witt officiating. A family prayer service at the church will be held at 1:15 p.m. Interment will be in Christ Lutheran Cemetery in Columbus.
Ted was born October 29, 1933, to Gottlieb and Ruth (Kuehnert) Wilke in Columbus, Nebraska. He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church. He attended Christ Lutheran School and graduated from Kramer High School in 1951. He attended Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. Ted was united in marriage to Norma Jean Gunderson at Little Chapel of the Roses in Chula Vista, California. He was a dental assistant in the Navy in San Diego. Ted spent time working in farming, carpentry, and truck driving in California, Oregon, Kansas and Nebraska. He loved fishing, hunting and trapping, carpentry work which he excelled at, and following Nebraska Huskers football. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Ted was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Stayton, Oregon. His strong singing voice could be heard throughout the church.
Ted is survived by his son, Gregory (Marianne) Wilke of Pendleton, Oregon; grandchildren, Titus, David, Judah (Noel), Gordon (fiancé Ida), Levi, Gideon (Opal), Susannah and Clementina (fiancé Jordan) Wilke, and Petra Smith (Jason); son, Jonathan (Karen Shultz) Wilke of Kearney, Nebraska; grandchildren, Kendyl and Grady Frickey; daughter, Kathryn (Greg) Brockmeier of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren, Simon, Andrew and Benjamin; granddaughters-in-law Ruth Wilke and Zyanya Wilke; six great-grandchildren, Demetrius, Gabriel, Nathaniel, Sophia, Zahava, and Simeon Wilke; sister, Margaret Olson of Portland, Oregon; brother, Walter (Arlene) Wilke of Columbus; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Wilke and Janice Wilke of Columbus; the mother of his children, Norma Wilke; and many nieces and nephews.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Gottlieb and Ruth Wilke; sisters, Ruth Ann Behlen and Gretchen Schroeder; brothers, Robert Wilke and Julian Wilke; and brothers-in-law, George Behlen, Albert Olson and Billy Schroeder.
