Thaine R. Nelson
April 17, 1922 - February 10, 2013
Salem - Thaine Nelson went home to the Lord Sunday, February 10 after a two and one-half year battle with cancer.
He was born April 17, 1922 in Kansas City, Missouri. His family soon moved to Colorado where his father was a Baptist minister in various small towns near Denver. After high school, he attended William Jewell College in Missouri for two years. He then served in the Air Force for three years. He was a cryptographer, stationed in India during that time.
After returning to Denver, he graduated from Rockmont College in 1949. His education continued at Western Baptist Seminary in Portland, which he attended for two years.
Thaine married Betty Wilson in 1946 after quite a long courtship. Thaine is survived by his wife of 65 years; son Timothy and his wife, Linda; and two grandchildren, Rebecca Abbott and Jeremy Nelson; and great-grandchildren Daisy and Luci Abbott.
Thaine was a committed Christian and served faithfully in his local church, both in Christian Education and music. He moved to Salem to reside at Capital Manor after thirty-six years as a Post Office Manager in Sacramento, CA.
