Sonia Jean (Harms) Weisner
May 5, 1971 - December 4, 2015
Sonia Weisner was born to Galen and Jonell Harms on May 5, 1971, in Salem Oregon. Three months after her birth, her family moved to Curitiba, Brazil, and later to Sao Paulo, Brazil where she spent the first seven years of her life. Upon returning to the United States in 1978, the family spent three years in Salem before moving to Dallas, Oregon, where Sonia would spend the remainder of her school years, graduating from Dallas High School in 1989. Following High School, Sonia attended Fresno Pacific University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1993.
Sonia married Phillip Yager in 1991 and had two wonderful children, Aleece and Hunter, who were the pride and joy of Sonia's life. As in every other aspect of her life, Sonia was a phenomenal, loving, caring, nurturing mother to her children. Their strength and character are a living testimony to that.
After Graduating from Fresno Pacific University in 1993, Sonia worked for Washington Federal Saving and Loan for 15 years, working her way up to Branch Manager for the Dallas Branch. She left that position in 2008, taking a position as a Treasury Specialist for Marion County, where she remained employed until her passing.
In the most beautiful wedding ceremony ever performed thanks to a tremendous outpouring of love from family and friends, Sonia married Rex Weisner on Christmas morning, December 25, 2013. They shared almost two years of a love the likes of which this world has seldom seen. That love will never die.
Sonia was a very gifted athlete as is evidenced by her winning the district singles tennis championship in both her junior and senior years at Dallas High School. Later in life she enjoyed running, hiking, camping, and traveling. Ever active and never idle, she was also an extremely talented and passionate quilter. Those beautiful works of her gifted hands are a lasting legacy of her passion and love.
Sonia was preceded in death by her brother Richard Harms. She is survived by her husband, Rex Weisner of Dallas; her daughter Aleece Yager and son Hunter Yager, both of Dallas; her parents, Galen and Jonell Harms of Dallas; her brother Doug (Deanne) Harms of Salem; her nephew Colton Harms and niece Katelyn Harms, both of Salem; step-son Mark (Vanessa) Weisner of Salem; step-daughter Michelle (Travis) Fisbeck of Salem; and countless friends who loved her dearly.
Sonia's life will be celebrated on Sunday, December 13, 2015, 1:30 pm, at Evangelical Bible Church, 1175 SE Howe St, Dallas, OR 97338. Farnstrom Mortuary is caring for the family. Memories, photos and condolences may be shared at FarnstromMortuary.com.
