Shirley H. Raffety, 84, a lifelong resident of Independence, died Thursday in Dallas.
Shirley H. Grover was born to Mirt and Elva Grover in Buell, Oregon. She graduated from Independence High School in 1946 and worked for Holt Equipment Company until she married Ernie Raffety in 1953. They were happily married for 49 years when he passed away in 2002.
Shirley was a stay at home mom, busy raising three daughters until 1968 when she went to work at OCE (now Western Oregon University) in the business office. She worked there 18 years until her retirement in 1986.
Shirley enjoyed working in her yard, scrapbooking, quilting and spending time with her family. She was a great cook.
Shirley is survived by three daughters: Sue (Gary) Arndt of Woodburn, Sally (Dave) Dunkin of Dallas and Shannon (Wayne) Addison of Independence. She also is survived by seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the Independence First Baptist Church, 1505 Monmouth Street, Independence, OR 97351.
