Our precious Mother, Shirley M. Goertzen, went home to be with Jesus on Friday, April 8, 2022. Her four children were at her side at Independence Care & Rehabilitation Center. Born to Henry and Elsie Boyes on August 5, 1928 in Salem, OR; she spent all her life in the mid-Willamette Valley, mostly in Salem. She is pre-deceased by her husband of 72 years, Melvin J. Goertzen, as well as brother, Ronald E. Boyes.
Mother loved and adopted many cats over the years. She loved to bowl in her younger years and did quite well in the women's league. She sold Avon products for a number of years and loved interacting with her special customers. Above all, she was the greatest homemaker, whom always put her family first. She was an excellent cook and cookie maker. In addition to her own offspring, their offspring, and so on, and so on; she loved and cared about close neighborhood children for many years. They were always welcome to stop and visit and share the cookies. She believed in saying "I love you" to all she met. She was always a generous giver, putting others before herself. She had a beautiful smile. She had a deep faith in God and was a member of Englewood Methodist Church.
Mother is survived by her four offspring: Karl Goertzen (Irene), Bruce Goertzen, Melva (J.C.) Headrick, and Denny Goertzen. Descendants further include six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She loved all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren and took pride in remembering their names and birthdates. She is also survived by her dear sister, Charlene Mackinnon.
The family wishes to shout out a big THANK-YOU to all the wonderful and loving caregivers at both Independence Care & Rehabilitation Center, and Serenity Hospice. Our Mother loved you all, and you were an extreme help to the family as well. Also, thank you to her special friend, and roommate Crystal Mimmick at the Care Center. You were always there for her, and we know you loved each other. To quote deceased gospel singer/songwriter Dottie Rambo: "Earth will never lose a sweeter mamma; Heaven will never welcome a sweeter soul".
Mother’s immediate family will privately celebrate her life.
Farnstrom Mortuary is caring for the family.
