Ruth Leona (Chaseley) Hart
December 21, 1924 - October 2, 2017
Monmouth - Ruth Leona (Chaseley) Hart, 92, looked forward to her place in heaven, joining her husband of 59 years, Bill and her mother. She passed peacefully at home with her daughter and son-in-law in Monmouth, OR on October 2, 2017. She was the youngest of five children, born to George and Eva Chaseley on December 21, 1924 in Maywood, IL. She grew up in the same home she was born in and graduated from Proviso High School in 1942. She worked in a boys' home before moving to California where she met the love of her life, Willis Harrison (Bill) Hart. They were married in 1952 in Colton, California. She was a dedicated daughter, wife and mother. Over the years she enjoyed reading, activities supporting schools and cake decorating. She went on frequent camping activities with Bill in western US, Alaska and Canada. After Bill's retirement, they sold their home and came to Oregon to visit family and travel. Three days later, they bought a house very close to their daughter and grandsons, in Independence, OR. Once settled, they continued to travel for many years. Ruth loved several dogs over the years that were a part of the family. A few years ago she was given a cat, Gracie, and she learned she could love a cat as easily as a dog. In recent years, Ruth enjoyed time with her loving church family at Cornerstone Church of God in Independence, as well as friendships at Monmouth/Independence Gleaners and the Senior Center. She especially loved seeing pictures of "the baby", her granddaughter Adalynn. She will be remembered for her kind heart, beautiful smile, love of chocolate and microwave caramels.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, four siblings (Ida, Fred, Viola and George) and step-son Dennis Baxter. She is survived by her son John Bryant of Portland, OR; daughter Laura (Walt) Landes of Monmouth, OR; step-daughter Deedra Quartucy of Victorville, CA; grandsons Ben Kistler of Phoenix, AZ; Phil (Candace) of Commerce City, CO and Jon Bryant of Portland, OR and great-granddaughter Adalynn Grace Kistler of Commerce City, CO.
A special thank you to Malinda Fitts, who lovingly helped with her care as her health declined.
No services are planned at this time. Her remains will be placed at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR. Farnstrom Mortuary is caring for the family. Share your memories at FarnstromMortuary.com.
