Colan R. Cook

August 12, 1920 - February 18, 2013

Prineville - Colan Russell Cook passed away on February 18, 2013 in Prinveville, Oregon at the age of 92. He was born on August 12, 1920 in Parsons, Kansas to Newton and Alta Cook. Colan's family relocated to the Independence area in his teens.

Colan served in the United States Air Force during World War 2. On November 17, 1944, he married Leta Joy Mode, an Independence native, in Vancouver, Washington, and together they raised three sons, Dennis, Kent and Lane.

Following the war, Colan attended a VA agriculture school, and then worked as a truck driver for the State of Oregon for 17 years until his retirement in 1967.

Colan loved camping, hunting and fishing. His passion was his family, and his grandchildren were his delight. He held strong moral convictions, but was noted for his special sense of humor. His dream was to see 100, and while he did not get to fulfill that dream, his example will be remembered, and his legacy will live on in the lives of his family and those he touched.

Colan was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Leta Joy; 6 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his sons, Dennis (Kobyann) Cook of Woodburn, OR; Kent (Connie) Cook of Valley, WA; Lane Cook of Prineville, OR; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 27, 11:30 a.m. at Monmouth Christian Church, 959 Church St W, Monmouth. Interment with military honors will be at Hilltop Cemetery, Independence.
