Ronald Arthur Swartzendruber passed away of cardiac arrest at Salem Hospital early in the morning of February 19, 2020. He was 48.
Ron was born in Upland California on March 1, 1971 to Warren and Jackie Swartzendruber. The Swartzendruber family moved to Corvallis, Oregon early in his childhood. He graduated from Corvallis High School in 1989, and from Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia in 1993. He worked for several years in Information Technology for non-profits in Washington D.C., before returning to Oregon from Virginia via a cross-country bicycle trip in 1999, accompanied by his brother Erik. Upon his return to Corvallis, he began as a web programmer and IT security specialist for Western Oregon University in 1999.
Ron was gifted with computers, and had the rare gift of being able to translate the computer sciences into simple language the rest of us could easily understand. He was a life-long Tolkien aficionado and gamer. He loved math, the sciences, puzzles, hiking, sci-fi, and always being in possession of the perfect gadget for any challenge. He possessed a brilliant mind and a gentle soul, and his compassion and empathy will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Whitney Ware, of Independence; parents Warren & Jackie Swartzendruber of Corvallis, brother Erik Peter Swartzendruber & sister-in-law Angela Baker or Corvallis, in-laws Donald & Wannell Ware of Brownsville, Oregon, and nephews & nieces Skyla & Casey Baker-Swartzendruber, and Ryan, Carmen & Don Juan of Brownsville, and Eric & Lena Ware.
On Sunday, March 1st from 2:30-5:00 there will be a gathering at Westminster House, 101 NW 23rd St, Corvallis, OR to remember and celebrate the life of Ron Swartzendruber, starting with a service, followed by an informal time to share memories and condolences.
