Born to Ted and Marian Dillman on March 4, 1933, in the small logging town of Snoqualmie Falls, Washington, during the Great Depression. The family relocated to Seattle, Washington, in 1936. Ron attended Broadview Elementary School, Hamilton and Monroe Jr. High Schools. His parents divorced in 1946 and his mother remarried in 1947, with the family relocating to Salem, Oregon in 1947. In Salem, Ron attended Parish Jr. High School and graduated from Salem Senior High School in 1951. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, embarking on a more than 20-year career in the military. During his service, he was first sent to a 3-year tour in England where he met and married Joan Cole in Bournemouth, England in 1953. Ron and Joan had four children over the next 10 years. They divorced in 1964. Ron, accompanied by his children, served overseas tours in France, England again, Scotland, and the Pacific Island of Guam. Stateside duty included being stationed in Texas, Washington (twice), Wyoming (twice), and California, finally retiring from the Air Force in 1971 with the rank of Master Sergeant. Ron was twice awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for his excellence of carrying out his duties. Upon retirement, he returned to Salem, Oregon, along with his children, eventually settling in Dallas, Oregon. He was employed by the Oregon Statesman Journal as circulation manager for Dallas for 1½ years. He also worked for Agri-Pac, Inc., a food processing plant, for 10 years as a warehouseman, finally retiring again in 1987. Ron enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in school athletic events and activities. He was also an avid fan of Dallas High School and OSU sports, as well as the Seattle Mariners. He enjoyed working with his flower garden each year. Ron was predeceased by his parents, and sister Valerie Pierce. He is survived by a daughter Joan Roark-Haddon of Myrtle Point, Oregon, sons Craig Stewart (Jeannie) of Dallas, Randy Stewart of Sublimity, Oregon, and Murray Stewart (Paige) of Philomath, Oregon, ten grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
