Robert Winfield Ward

Robert Winfield Ward passed away in his Monmouth home surrounded by his loving family on July 1, 2022, at the age of 95. Robert was born in Pipe Creek Township, Indiana on January 8, 1927, to Walter and Margaret Ward. He was the youngest of 5 children.
After graduating high school, Robert enlisted in the military under the Army branch. He later moved to Anderson Indiana where he married his first wife Ruth Brinduse, with who he had two daughters Debbie and Christy. It was also there that he started his career of many years with General Motors Delco-Remy. Sadly, his wife Ruth passed away in 1980 due to early Alzheimer’s disease. In 1981, he was forced to retire due to General Motors layoffs. He then moved to Green Bay Wisconsin with his two daughters, where he started to work at Chrysler Corporation. Many years later, both of his daughters passed away due to the same disease as their mother, early Alzheimer’s.
Robert loved to travel. His favorite place to visit was Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. He had plans to return, but due to a back injury, he was not able to do so.
In 2003, he met Maria Morales who would become his second wife a few years later. Robert and Maria used to work together at a Shell gas station in Lake Oswego Oregon, where she was a cashier clerk and he was a gas attendant. He only worked there 4 hours a day to get some exercise. They became really good friends, and in 2010 they became husband and wife. For many years, Maria took good care of him. From his back injury, to seven surgeries due to Melanoma, Maria was always by his side. In 2016 they sold their Portland home and moved to Monmouth Oregon.
Robert is survived by his wife Maria Ward, and step-children Carolina and Mervil Thibodeaux, Hugo Morales and Ana Ramirez, and Joyce and Abel Carbajal, and grandchildren Fernanda, Abel, Jesse, Diego, Julissa, Jacky, Jocy, Annabel, Carlos, Mervil and Antonio. He was very loved by all, and he will be truly missed.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022 at 2 pm at Farnstrom Mortuary in Independence Oregon.
Roberts last resting place will be at the Willamette National Cemetery.
