Obituary, Robert E. Ross August 19, 1928 ~ January 13, 2008 Robert E. Ross of Independence, Oregon passed away January 13, 2008 at the age of 79. Robert was born August 19, 1928 in Ventura, California. Graduated from High School in Lompoc, California. He worked for Johns-Manville Company in Lompoc. He served his apprenticeship to become A and E mechanic, the started a crop dusting business in 1953 which then sold it to his son Robert in 1985. He was part of the Sheriffs Aero Squadron in Santa Barbara, California. Technical Counselor for the EAA. Moved to Hawaii and started a tour business to fly tourist around the volcano. Moved to Independence, Oregon in 2002. Robert enjoyed building planes and helping ours build theirs. He enjoyed traveling to air shows. Robert was a member of the AOPA, EAA in Hilo, Hawaii and Independence, Oregon, Half Hundred Club, Caterpillar Club, and Rotary in Hilo, Hawaii. Robert received the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic award for the FAA in 1998. Paul Harris award from Rotary. And there is a park named after him in Pahoa, Hawaii Robert E. Ross Park. Survivors include his wife Kayla Ross of Independence, Oregon, Daughter; Candace Griffith of Australia, Daughter; Allison Mike Mann of California, Son; Rob Marcia Ross of California, Sons; Steven and Mark Scovel of Vermont, 15 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren. Brother in Law; Gary Cherrie Clark of Heppner, Oregon, Sister in Law; Vicki Mike Hoyt of Philomath, Oregon. Preceded in death by his father and mother E. Earl Ross and Margarette Ross, Daughter Cynthia Cole and brother in law James Clark. Celebration of Life will be held 2:00pm Feb. 23rd at the EAA Hanger at the Independence Airpark.
