Robert "Bob" Kiggins

Robert “Bob” Kiggins, 76, loving and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather passed away at home in Independence on October 29th. Bob is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 29 years, Cheryl, Brother John Kiggins (Paulette), daughters Starla Colwell (Kevin) of Benson, AZ, daughter Shelly Owens (Mark) of Cochise, AZ, daughter Shannon Patterson (Robert) of Independence, multiple nieces and nephews and four grandsons.Bob was born to John Frederick and Irma Mae Kiggins on October 27, 1942 in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. He spent his early years in Colorado and then moved to Oregon and lived in Hood River and Eastern Oregon and eventually settled in the Willamette Valley.Bob joined the US Army at age 17. He served in Germany for most of his enlistment. He was a Private First Class when discharged.Bob graduated Chemeketa Community College with an Associate Degree in Real Estate. He used his skills to work for Polk County Assessor's Office as an Appraisal Agent. He later began employment at Marion County as an Appraisal and Right-of-Way Agent then later to the State of Oregon in the transportation department. Bob enjoyed many things outside of work. Among his interests were woodworking, gardening, reading, traveling and fishing. He also enjoyed grilling and baking.A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, November 17th at 1:00 PM at the Independence Civic Center, 555 South Main Street, Independence, OR 97351.
