Richard Kent "Dick" Fulwyler

Richard Kent "Dick" Fulwyler passed away Friday, October 19, 2018 while at home in West Salem, OR surrounded by family. The fourth son of Osvald Doak Fulwyler and Esther Upton Fulwyler, Dick was born August 9, 1941 in Nampa, Idaho. He attended elementary and high schools in Vale, OR where he excelled in football and made many life-long friends. He attended OSU in Corvallis for two years, then transferred to the College of Idaho in Caldwell, ID from which he graduated in 1965 with a Bachelors in Education. Subsequently, in 1967 he was awarded a Masters in Education from the University of Oregon.While at the College of Idaho he met Virginia Montgomery and they were married December 22, 1963. They had two daughters, Erin born in July, 1966 and Maisie born in October, 1969. During Dick's career he was an elementary and secondary teacher, football and wrestling coach, athletic director and principal in various Oregon School Districts including: Albany, Gold Beach, Crook County, Winston-Dillard and Roseburg. He loved coaching wrestling and was very proud of all his wrestlers, from the smallest "99-pounder" to the largest heavy-weight. Following his retirement from education he became a Realtor in Roseburg, OR adding to his numerous collection of friends.In addition to his wife of nearly 55 years, Dick is survived by Erin (Mark) Dunmire of Monmouth, Oregon and Maisie (Saul) Kienle of Boring, Oregon; Grandsons Dean and Keegan Dunmire; Granddaughters Jocelyn Dunmire, and Hannah and Lydia Kienle. Also surviving is his brother Robert (Patricia) Fulwyler of Boise, Idaho and sisters-in-law Norma of Vale, OR, Faye of Bakersfield, CA and Vera Kunkel of Scottsdale, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews.The funeral will be Saturday, October 27, 2018, 10:30 am at Farnstrom Mortuary, 410 Monmouth St., Independence, OR.
