Obituary, Ralph Leland Winegar July 4, 1916 ~ February 6, 2009 Ralph Leland Winegar of Monmouth, Oregon died on Friday, February 6th at the age of 92, at the Four Seasons in Independence. He was born to Jay and Hattie Winegar on July 4, 1916 in Monmouth, Oregon. Ralph was born and raised in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1934. He met his wife Evelyn while she was attending Oregon Normal School now Western Oregon University and they married in 1939. They were married for 66 years. In addition to helping with the family dairy, located in the area of the Winegar Ave, Willow Way, and Suzana Street he farmed in various locations in Polk County after his marriage to Evelyn. In the 1960's Ralph began developing the dairy farm into rental homes, at one time taking care of 71 rentals he owned on Courtway, Knox and Ecols Street. Ralph's survivors include his six children, Lois Bob Canfield of Georgetown, Texas, Kay Larry Vogt and Jerry Sharon Winegar of Monmouth, Jean Ron Comstock of Salem, Jane Ken Simmons of Canby, and Donna Jim Ossenkop of Redmond, Oregon; 17 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 13 foster children and 17 foreign exchange students. His wife of 66 years and one great grandson, Kyler Ossenkop, preceded him in death. Ralph was a life-long fan of football and basketball and supported Central Panthers and the OSU Beavers. He bowled on several teams at the Independence Bowling Alley. Ralph enjoyed meeting daily with "the boys" at Burgerville. He was also a member of the Independence First Baptist Church. Contributions may be made to the Gate Youth Foundation or Willamette Valley Hospice. A private family interment will be at Fir Crest Cemetery in Monmouth. A Celebration of Life will be 2:00pm Friday February 13th at the Independence First Baptist Church.
