Rachel Miriam (Jones) Cobb
November 15, 1935 - August 10, 2013
Monmouth - Rachel Cobb, age 77, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her children and grandchildren on August 10. She was diagnosed with bladder cancer in May 2013. A devoted wife of 47 years, loving mother and dedicated Christian are but a few phrases which describe this lovely woman.
She was born to Eugene S. Jones (deceased) and Sibyl V. Jones (deceased) in Salem, Oregon, but then raised the remainder of her early life in Silverton, Oregon. She came from a large family which consisted or eight children: Norman Jones of Anchorage, Alaska (deceased), Wesley Jones of Phoenix, Arizona (deceased); Jack Jones of Salem, Oregon (deceased); Mildred Harper of Silverton, Oregon (deceased); Evelyn Shipp of Sweet Home, Oregon (deceased); Mary Swiger of Chattanooga, Tennessee (deceased); and Ruth Keisling of The Dalles, Oregon (survives).
Rachel attended Silverton High School, and graduated from the high school program provided by Lee College in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She later attended Merit Davis Business College. She worked in secretarial positions, and later worked in a practical nurse position at Fairview Hospital, Salem, Oregon.
Rachel served as a pastors' wife alongside her beloved husband, Richard D. Cobb (of 47 years of marriage, now deceased). Valley Christian Assembly (Monmouth, Oregon) was the last church they served at together. She had a desire to share Jesus' love with children, and was able to do so as she taught Sunday school for 45 years.
Along with her husband and God, her children: Deborah L. Jenkins (husband Jeff) of Waynesfield, Ohio; and Richard D. Cobb Jr. (wife Charity) of Independence, Oregon, were her entire life. She considered them her most precious jewels; her time raising them was her most valuable investment.
She was a tremendous support not only to her children, but also to her beautiful grandchildren: Jared Jenkins (wife Mandy) of Lima, Ohio; Olivia, Abby, Leah and Gabriel Jenkins of Waynesfield, Ohio; Silas, Anna, Mandy and Emily Cobb of Independence, Oregon; and one great-grandchild: Lonnie Porter Jenkins (son of Jared and Mandy Jenkins).
Rachel cherished her time with family and friends; her time spent with them was much valued. When not with those she loved, you could find her at church, worshipping the God she loved so dearly. Worshipping her Maker brought her joy and peace of heart.
She was truly was a woman we, her children, can rise up and call blessed; she was precious to us. She will be missed dearly, and will live always in our hearts, and through us, as we live our lives the way she raised us.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 15, 11 am at Fir Crest Cemetery, Monmouth. Farnstrom Mortuary is caring for the family. Memories and condolences at
