Geneva Peyree
June 5, 1920 - December 11, 2014
INDEPENDENCE - Geneva Peyree died peacefully in her sleep on December 11, 2014 at the age of 94. She died in her home of 74 years surrounded by her family.
Geneva Green was born in Monmouth, Oregon on June 5 1920 and was raised on a working farm south of Monmouth. She met and married Hersel Peyree and together they raised four children. They farmed and maintained a working dairy and sold dairy products to the soldiers at Camp Adair during WWII. They shared an interest of Harley Davidsons, world travel, and in later years enjoyed the warmth and sunshine of Yuma, Arizona.
She was a member of the Independence First Baptist Church since childhood and her strong Christian faith was the cornerstone of her life. Her foundation was her unshakable faith in God, her love of family and her ability to always accentuate the positive and minimize the negative. She believed in forgiveness, taking the high, road and found the promise in the problematic.
She was a cook extraordinaire who provided nutritional meals for those who labored on the farm in our behalf. She loved to eat out and enjoyed football on the big screen. She was an avid gardener and was known for her beautiful yard, her knowledge of birds, her work ethic and her pond that was a constant source of life renewal and the promise of a coming season.
She took pride in her appearance but was not vain. It was never about "me" but about "we".
Geneva is survived by her daughter, Sharon Mallery of Phoenix, Arizona, her son Bill Peyree of Yuma, Arizona, her son Tom Peyree (Sally L. Peyree) of Independence, her daughter Sally Peyree of Independence, 6 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Her legacy is her faith, family, fortitude and example. A life well lived.
Private burial precedes a public service to be held Tuesday, December 16 at 2 pm at the Independence First Baptist Church in Independence, Oregon. Arrangements by Farnstrom Mortuary; FarnstromMortuary.com.
