Paul King Thompson
April 4, 1926 - December 2, 2014
Paul Thompson passed away peacefully in Happy Valley, Oregon on December 2nd. He lived a life full of adventure. Paul was born in Portland, Oregon, and grew up in Oregon and Iowa. His education included a Bachelor's degree in journalism, a Master's degree in education, and a Master's degree in Business Administration. He served two stints in the Navy, from 1944-46 and (in the reserves) from 1950-52, where he was stationed in Japan. He was preceded in death by his first wife Helen Tims and his son Phillip. He is survived by his two children Kathryn and Michael and ex-wives/friends Ruth Kelly, Lila Dodd, and Gail Upton. A schoolteacher as a young man, Paul spent most of his working career as a technical sales engineer for the Tektronix Corporation. In retirement, Paul endlessly indulged his love of independence and travel, living the RV life for more than 20 years and making a large number of international trips, visiting every state and setting foot on every continent, achieving quirky goals such as parking his RV in front of every lower 48 state capital and crossing every bridge that spans the Mississippi River. A family and friend memorial service for Paul will be held January 24th at 12:30 pm at the Fircrest Cemetery three miles south of Monmouth, Oregon, followed by an afternoon gathering at Christ's Church at 412 Clay Street West in Monmouth.
