In Living Memory Of
Panfilo Lara
Panfilo began his life journey on the morning of May 25th, 1942 in the town of Santa Cruz de Juventino Rosas, Guanajuato, Mexico. He was born to Guadalupe Vargas Lara and Eusebio Lara.
He married Maria de la Luz Gaona on September 20th, 1959 in Reynosa Tamaulipas, Mexico and had five children: Jorge Lara (Attorney), Juan Lara (US Army Medical Corp Retired, Materials Manager, Providence Hospitals), Mario Lara (Oregon Department of Forestry), Rosa Hernandez (Medical Translator) and Jose Lara (Federal Officer and US Army). His legacy also includes eleven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Panfilo and his family made the Willamette Valley their permanent home in 1971 where he worked as a laborer, at Early Roofing in Springfield, and Willamette Cherry Growers in Salem. His most memorable work, however, was with the Central School District.
His hobbies where camping and fishing. If you were to stop by his house you might not have found him. Anyone who knew him would know he was at the Social Security Hole spending time with his friends with a fishing pole in one hand and a beer in the other. A story often told is that Panfilo would sit in his car with beer in hand and the door open waiting for the chance to catch the big one. One day the bell on his fishing pole went off and he was in such a hurry that he fell out of his car landing on his hands and knees, yet not a drop of beer was spilled. He told us "It can take up to 80 hours to land a fish." Not wanting to waste any time he set his beer down and crawled all the way to his pole to set the hook. If ever you want to hear some good fishing stories about Panfilo (also known as Pappy to his friends), just stop by the social security hole (Emil Marx-Lloyd Strange "Fishing Hole") and spend a little time with some awesome fishermen and good people that are always ready to teach you a thing or two about fishing.
On behalf of the Lara family I would like to thank all of our dad's friends down at the Social Security Hole for being such a big part of his life.
On the morning of May 8th, 2013 at 11:23 AM, Panfilo concluded his journey. Dad we know you are up there with Pat fishing in that heavenly river catching the big ones but we will miss your heavenly smile down here. "FISH ON!!!"
Panfilo's life will be celebrated privately. Farnstrom Mortuary is handling final arrangements. Please share your memories and condolences at FarnstromMortuary.com.
