Nola R. Millhouser
June 14, 1929 - February 28, 2013
Dallas- Nola R Millhouser, 83, longtime resident of the Monmouth area, died Thursday, February 28th at Dallas Retirement Village. Nola was born in Mitchell, Nebraska on June 14th, 1929, to Fred and Burla Richter. She was the oldest of 5 girls. They moved to Oregon when Nola was a young girl and lived in several rural areas, settling in Independence. Nola received a Bachelor of Arts from Oregon College of Education and taught grade school in Dallas Oregon for 9 years. She met and married the love of her life, Clare on December 9, 1949 and they were married for over 50 years. In those years they purchased ground south of Dallas that they cleared, cleaned and farmed together raising row crops and seed crops.
Nola was very active in the agricultural community. She served in every capacity in Women for Ag and brought Ag in the Classroom to several area grade schools. She also served on numerous Ag boards in Polk County as well as State level, receiving countless awards for her service and dedication. She was also a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Dallas, where once again she served in many areas, including singing in the choir. In her spare time she raised a huge garden, sharing with any and all what she produced. She also enjoyed her greenhouse and flowers.
Nola was preceded in death by her husband Clare and her sister Carol Richter. Survivors include son Bill Millhouser (Cindy), Susan King (Dennis), 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Friday March 8th, 11:00 am at Hilltop Cemetery, Independence. In lieu of flowers the family would suggest contributions to Willamette Valley Hospice.
