Independence - Nathen Dale Doan, 65, of Independence died November 7 after a courageous struggle with cancer.
He was born in Broken Bow, Oklahoma on August 7, 1948 to Frederick Cecil and Billie Jean Doan. He was the second of three children.
Nathen grew up in the Stayton area and graduated from Stayton High School. Nathen served in the US Army in Vietnam, earning the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. After the war, Nathen worked in security and coaching basketball. Nathen was a beloved coach and his care and concern for children continued to the end of his life.
Nathen is survived by his son Scott Doan of Scio; daughter Antoinette Fisher of Rockford, Michigan; three grandchildren; sister Norma Burr of Albany; brother Randy Doan of Albany; uncle Newlon Doan of Junction City; aunt Marie Doan of Oklahoma and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 13, 2 pm at Farnstrom Mortuary, Independence. Interment at Hilltop Cemetery, Independence. Please share your memories and condolences at www.FarnstromMortuary.com .
