Dallas - Murn Ismae Fountain was born November 13th, 1917 in Becker, Minnesota; the middle of 5 children born to Roy and Ella Rush. She passed on February 3rd, 2014 in Dallas, Oregon after a long, giving and loving life.
She was married to Leonard Fountain on April 3rd, 1940 and lived in Minnesota until moving to Oregon in 1948. Leonard and Murn settled in Tillamook when they first arrived in Oregon but they moved to the Nehalem area where Leonard was a butcher and Murn a homemaker. Leonard and Murn had 3 children; Karen Falk of Monmouth, Oregon; Norma, address unknown and Robert of Lyons, Oregon. They had 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
After Leonard was hurt in a mill accident, Murn worked at Rinehart hospital in Wheeler as a physical therapist for 18 years and held the family together through some tough times with her impressive annual gardens, by preserving the fruits of those gardens for later use ,and by saving or using anything to its best extent. Murn's focus was always on the family and her greatest joy was having all the family together for a delicious meal she prepared; always enough to feed an army. Murn was an excellent cook, canner, seamstress, crochet and collector of many varied things. She found great joy in finding some item that would add one more piece to one of her many collections.
Murn was predeceased by her husband Leonard in 2002; her son-in-law Alton in 2008, her parents and 2 siblings, Lois and Clifford. She is survived by daughter Karen, her sons Tim and Matt and their families and by son Robert, daughter-in-law Sharron and their children Stephanie and Ryan and their families. Also by sisters Ione Agnew and Shirley Johnson of Minnesota.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributing to Hospice Care of the Northwest ( www.hospicecarenw.com ) and/or an Alzheimer's Foundation for further research.
Murn's services will be held at Farnstrom Mortuary in Independence, Oregon on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 1 pm. Private inurnment at Restlawn Memory Gardens. For photos, memories and condolences, visit FarnstromMortuary.com.
