May Lue Gipson Gustafson, 67, died on Feb. 18, 2014 in Monmouth.
She was born May Lue Gipson to Connie and Ernie Gipson in San Diego, CA on Jan. 17, 1947. She was preceded in death by her parents and one child, Brigid Kalle Gustafson.
May graduated from Kearny High School in 1964, and from San Diego State University 1968 with a BS in psychology and minor in education. In May of 1997, she received her Masters of Divinity from Emory University.
In 1968, May married Edwin Gustafson. She is survived by four of her five children, Erin, Megan, Kristin and Lars, and one grandchild, Oscar. Also surviving are her siblings, Janice Gipson, Katelyn Lord-Skinner (Don), Dan Gipson, Ellen Dockery-Reger (Dennis), and nieces and nephews.
May was talented and dedicated to developing her talents in order to serve others. Throughout her high school years, she was in the San Diego Youth Symphony as first chair cello for one year and second chair cello the rest. She continued to play guitar and autoharp for church and family for many years.
While living in Santa Barbara, she was a La Leche League leader. When she moved to Oregon, she started a La Leche League in her community.
May was an accomplished weaver. She was a member of the Santa Barbara Weaver's Guild, now the Fiber Arts Guild. She had pieces in several shows and galleries in the area.
She was a musician, weaver, knitter, crocheter, seamstress, philosopher and teacher. The love she had for every person she met, the spirit of creativity that permeated her work and her thoughts and the joyful pursuit of knowledge will live on in her children and all the lives she touched.
