Monmouth - Marvin Harold Mark Ford, Sr., was born on April 11, 1943 in Mill City, Oregon to Ellis and Ollie Ford. He died on November 9, 2012, after 69 years of life. He is survived by his beloved wife Jacque, sons Marvin Jr., Greg, and Dan, plus six grandchildren, Michael, Megan, Jonathan, Mason, Milo, and Remy. He is also survived by his brothers Harvey (Ginger) and Ron; his sisters, Patty (Ted) Gibson and Waunda (Mike) Rice and several nephews and nieces.
Marv attended Central High School, then joined the United States Navy and had deployments to Viet Nam with VF-96. After leaving the Navy, he returned to Monmouth and worked in the timber industry. He married Jacqueline Becker on November 5, 1966 in Portland, Oregon. Marv served as a Police Officer in Monmouth and Amity, rising to the rank of Chief. He then went to work for Oregon College of Education as the Safety and Security Director. Marv served as the Operations Manager for the Salem Center, then finally retired in 2008. He also worked for a year at Bi-Mart part time after retiring.
Marv was a proud member of the Cherokee Nation. He was active in several organizations including the Jay-Cees, MIKI, Panther Club, American Legion, Odd Fellows, and AMVETs. He and Jacque delivered Meals on Wheels for several years. Many of his activities centered on supporting his children in their endeavors.
Marv was an avid fisherman, picking up the sport from Shorty and Charlie Fisher, his first employers during high school and when he returned to Monmouth after the Navy. Marv continued his education after leaving Central, earning his Associates Degree from Chemeketa in Law Enforcement.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 13 starting at 12:00 pm, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 pm, both at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1275 E Street, Independence, OR 97351.
