Marilyn Jane Jensen

September 5, 1949 — May 30, 2018

Marilyn Jensen, 68, suddenly passed away Wednesday, May 30th in Salem. Marilyn is survived by her best friend and loving husband of 48 years, Jerome “Jerry” Jensen, and their two daughters.

Marilyn, born Marilyn Jane Drasdoff in September of 1949 was the daughter of the late John and Marlys Drasdoff of Albany, Oregon. She spent her early years on Shortridge Lane with her little brother Daniel, him causing mischief and her riding her pony, ‘Buddy Boy’, which made all of her friends jealous. She grew up loving the outdoors and made life-long friends through early camping and fishing adventures. Marilyn spent her teen years up in the orchards in Buena Vista picking peaches and pulling berries for her grandparents in the summer. In the off-season, she worked at Baskin-Robbins and was the first female scooper in the state of Oregon.

Marilyn met the love of her life at Albany Union High School. Jerome first saw her at the city swimming pool after a long day of bean picking on the farms. He wooed her with his 1949 Mercury and the rest was history…the high school sweethearts married in June of 1970 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Marylin then graduated from the School of Journalism and Communication at the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!) in 1971. Together they created two beautiful daughters. Their first daughter Molly was born in 1977 and Jennifer was born in 1988.

Marilyn’s four grandchildren (Mason, Mya, Morgan and Grant) were her world. She loved nothing more than spending time with them. From reading books and singing nursery rhymes to watching them perform in theater and choir performances, she was always there for them with a smile on her face and a snack in her purse.

Marilyn retired from the State of Oregon after 35 years and spent the last years of her life volunteering, taking baked goods to dear friends in need and helping her community. She lived each day to the fullest. Her favorite quote is, “The things you take for granted… someone else is praying for.”

In honor of Marilyn’s joyful life, there will be a gathering of family and friends this Wednesday, June 6 at 1 pm in Buena Vista. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Father Taaffe Homes Maternity Support Services through the Catholic Community Services: https://www.ccswv.org/home-page/can-help/donate-today/donate/ .
