David Scott Jondle (61) and Marilyn Ruth Jondle (58) were called home to be with their Savior on August 31, 2010.
David, who went by his middle name, Scott, was born to Ralph and MaryEllen Jondle on January 7, 1949 in Ladysmith, Wisconsin.
Marilyn was born to Ira and Jean Edwards on November 14, 1951 in Glendale, California.
The two met when they were students at St. Olaf College in Minnesota. Scott graduated in 1972 with a B.S. in Chemistry and received his M.S. in Chemistry in 1974 from the University of Minnesota. Marilyn graduated in 1973 with a B.A. in Home Economics. Scott and Marilyn were married on April 21, 1973 at the United Methodist Church in Northfield.
Scott was in the ROTC and entered the Air Force, where he achieved the rank of Captain. He was stationed at McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, WA; Clark Air Base in the Philippines; and Ramstein Air Force Base in Kaiserslautern, Germany. While in Germany, Scott and Marilyn were heavily involved with the Navigators missionary organization. At the end of his tour, Scott was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1981, and subsequently the two moved to Southern California where he took a position with Hughes Aircraft. In 1986 they moved to Silicon Valley, where Scott worked for Lockheed.
Interested in pursuing a quieter pace, Scott and Marilyn moved their family to Virginia in 1999 to study sustainable farming with author and renowned agriculturist Joel Salatin. Upon completion of their apprenticeship at Polyface Inc., they moved to Dallas, Oregon, where they started Abundant Life Farm on September 1, 2000.
Aside from the tireless effort that went into running a sustainable farm, both Scott and Marilyn were active with Calvary Chapel and were instrumental in creating and organizing the Dallas branch of the church. Scott served on the church's leadership team and as part of the Board. Marilyn loved working with her hands, knitting and crocheting beautiful sweaters, sewing intricate quilts, and making soaps and assorted cheeses for her friends and family.
Scott and Marilyn are survived by their sons Wayne David Jondle and his wife, Jessica; Luke Edward Jondle and his wife, Sarah; Andrew Thomas Jondle; Scott's parents, Ralph and MaryEllen Jondle; Scott's brother, Bruce Jondle, and his wife, Veronica; Scott's brother, Ned Jondle, and his wife, Dawn; Scott's sister, Anne Henderson, and her husband, Andrew; Marilyn's mother, Jean Edwards Erickson, and her husband, Paul Erickson; and Marilyn's brother, David Edwards.
