Marie (Vaandering) Lebeck
April 5, 1923 - July 2, 2014
Marie (Vaandering) Lebeck of Independence, Oregon died July 2 after a long struggle with heart disease.
She was born in Sioux Center, Iowa on April 5, 1923 to Henry and Johanna Vaandering and was the second of 9 children. Marie grew up in Forest Grove, Oregon on the family farm, she help raise her siblings, and then married and had a family of her own she raise three children two daughters and one son.
Marie married the love of her life, Ted Lebeck and moved to Independence in 1971. They farmed 600 acres of rye grass and wheat, and raised cows. She and her husband retired from farming, but they started a new business "Lebeck's Mushroom Compost", and stayed in business for ten years. After retiring a second time, Marie was able to travel with her family and friends and was able to still work in her yard growing flowers and vegetables well into her late 80s.
Everyone who knew Marie knew she was a very caring and loving person. She had a strong attitude and let nothing stop her from getting things done. She had three grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
Survivors include her daughter Laura Verdegan of Portland; daughter Mary (David) Alison of Monmouth; grandchildren Steve & Brook Hickman of Monmouth; Larry & Seig Hickman of Lakewood, WA; great-granddaughter Linda Marie Hickman of Lakewood, WA; brother Bill (Ruth) Vaandering of Hillsboro; sister Betty (Gerald) Mooneyham of Forest Grove; sister Joy Barr of Forest Grove.
