Marie Evelyn Leininger

Marie Evelyn Leininger of Monmouth, Oregon passed away Monday September 20, 2010 at the age of 95.
Marie was born in Sioux City, Iowa, to Ernest and Bessie Belle Viola (Wright) Chance. Marie was raised in Concord, Nebraska, graduating from high school there. After graduation, she went to St. Paul Bible Institute, and worked her way through college as a maid. She worked as a phone operator in Chicago during World War II. On June 3rd, 1945 she married Warren Gilmore Leininger. Together they lived in the southern California area from 1945 - 1959, where they had their two children. Marie and Warren then moved to Seattle in 1959. After Warren's passing, she went to live in Lancaster, Pennsylvania with her son, and settled in Monmouth in 2002.
Marie loved to write poetry, was an accomplished Christian song writer and liked to write. She taught herself to play piano, and enjoyed playing the piano. Cleaning, playing word games and puzzles, especially Scrabble, painting, giving speeches, and acting were among her passions. She enjoyed singing, and even sang on the radio. She enjoyed being around people, enjoyed her family, children and grandchildren, having visitors, and was especially proud of her independence in her later years, and was a born again Christian strong in her values.
Marie is survived by her son, Dr. Larry Leininger and his wife Linda of Beeville, TX; daughter Darlene Heth and her husband Bill of Mill Creek, WA; sister Bernice Chance of San Jose, CA; five grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her special friend and neighbor Dale Hedrick of Monmouth, Mary May, and many other special friends.
A private cremation was held at Farnstrom Cremation Center with Farnstrom Mortuary in care of arrangements. Private interment will be at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park in Everett, Washington.
