Manuela Garcia Reyna

May 25, 1932 — September 13, 2018

Manuela G. Reyna passed on the morning of Thursday 9/13/18. After a valiant and inspiring battle with cancer, she received her wings and faithfully returned home to her Heavenly Father at the age of 86 surrounded by family at her home in Independence, Oregon.
Manuela was born on 5/25/32 in Mineral Wells, TX. to Jorge and Candelaria Garcia and had 8 siblings.  She arrived in Oregon as a migrant farm labor worker in 1962 with her husband of 54 years, Leoncio G. Reyna and raised their family in Independence. After a few years of working in Oregon agriculture and living on the farm they moved their family into town and worked hard to provide opportunities for their children. Besides being an entrepreneur and selling delicious homemade foods onsite at local farms, Manuela worked at Truitt Bros Inc. with her sisters, where she retired after 30 years.
Despite her busy schedule of making foods to sell, working at the cannery and taking care of her many grandchildren, nieces and nephews, she was an active member and integral part of St. Patrick’s Church in Independence, Or. where she served with endless energy, faith and love for numerous events, meals, retreats, organizations and committees including the “Guadalupanas”. For 40+ years she led and participated in the choir, singing and playing guitar.  Manuela also taught guitar lessons in her home for years as a way of spreading her love of music and her love for the LORD.
Her commitment and FAITH  were not poured out only to her family and church but  to her local community as well. Her endless love, friendship and generosity made her a valued, respected and loved member of her community. For this reason her home and her social calendar were always full. She often could find herself attending  2 or 3 events in 1 day. At the birthday parties, Quinceaňera and weddings, she could always be found on the dance floor with her family and friends.
She was widowed in 2005 and is survived by her 7 children; Mary D. Oliveros (Felix I Oliveros), Leoncio Jr., Jose Luis (Antonia Reyna), Juan Manuel (deceased), Yolanda Ojeda (Frank Ojeda), Margarita (Margie) Hernandez (Jose Hernandez) and Daniel (deceased). She has 23 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great- grandchildren and 1 on the way. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and in laws. Her faithful dog Ela, previously owned by her deceased son, “Johnny”, was always by her side, day and night.
The viewing will be held at Farnstrom Mortuary, Independence, OR on Sunday, September 16, from 5 pm to 8 pm.
Funeral Service will be held at St. Patrick’s Church, Independence. Monday, September 17, 2018  at 2 pm. Burial procession immediately following the service. She will be laid to rest at Fir Crest Cemetery, Monmouth.
Reception will be held at the St. Patrick Church after the burial.
Manuela’s home and life were always filled with family, friends, food, song, prayer and laughter. Her legacy lives on thru the many hearts she touched during her joyful and blessed life.
