Manuel "Manny" Fernandez
INDEPENDENCE - Manuel "Manny" Fernandez (also known by his loving brother as "Mangolo") passed away May 2, 2011 at the age of 71.
Manuel was born June 10, 1939 in Havana, Cuba. While he Cuba was a Merchant Marine. Moved to Portland, Oregon in 1968 and became a US citizen in 1973. He was married to Sharon Giffin where he had his 5 children with. Sally, Paula, Smokey "Brian", Bridget and Gary. Manuel and Sharon later divorced. Manuel work for Frito Lay for 20 years. He enjoyed playing soccer, boxing, Family BBQing and spending time with his brother Jose.
Survivors include in addition to his children, brother; Jose Fernandez of Independence, Sister in Law; Jacqueline Carlson of Independence, Nieces; Maria Rardin of Independence, Teresa Connor of Independence, God Daughter & Niece; Encarnacion Ingram of Vancouver, Washington, Caridad Devries of Independence. Several great nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by his nephew Jose Fernandez.
Visitation will be 3pm to 6pm Wednesday May 4th with services at 6pm all at Farnstrom Mortuary 410 Monmouth St. Independence, Oregon 97351.
