Madelyn F. Goodell

Independence - Madelyn F. Goodell, 82, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 20, 2013. Services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Heart to Heart Church, Monmouth. Burial will take place at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland. There will be no graveside service.
Madelyn is survived by her son Dale of Independence; her brother Wallace of Payette, Idaho; one nephew and two nieces. She is preceded in passing by her husband Neal, both parents, two brothers and her only sister. In one of life's little mysteries, Madelyn and Neal passed away on the same day, March 20, six years apart.
Madelyn Francine (Person) Goodell was born February 7, 1931 in Payette, Idaho, the third of five children, to Hilbert Bror Person and Alice Francis (Wendt) Person. She grew up in Payette and graduated from Payette High School in 1949. She worked for 32 years for the "Bell System". She began work in 1949 as a telephone operator for Mountain Bell in Payette. She moved to Portland in 1956 and worked there for about two years as an operator for Pacific Northwest Bell. She moved back to Payette in 1958 and continued working as an operator there until 1970. She married Neal Goodell on February 25, 1961. She and Neal lived on the Goodell farm near Ontario, Oregon from 1961 to 1970. Dale, their only child, was born November 29, 1964. In 1971 the family moved to Independence where Neal continued farming. Madelyn worked from 1972 to 1983 for Pacific Northwest Bell in Salem as an operator and in clerical positions. She took early retirement from the Bell System in 1983. She worked from 1988 to 1993 for the State of Oregon in clerical positions, including about a year for the Department of Labor and Industries in Salem and about four years in the Physical Plant at Western Oregon University in Monmouth.
Madelyn was an active member of Heart to Heart Church. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. She traveled to Sweden twice to visit relatives. She took an opportunity to visit the east coast of the US and she also traveled to Hawaii.
