Lawrence Lee Hickey

August 24, 1934 — December 14, 2004

Lawrence L. Hickey, 70, of Independence, Oregon died December 14, 2004 in his home do to respiratory failure. Born August 24, 1934 in Gilead, Nebraska, the son of John and Agnes Hergott Hickey. Lawrence graduated from high school with honors a year early. He then went on the University of Nebraska were he also graduated early with honors. He is a registered CPA. He was a top executive with Atomic Energy Commission then changed to the Department of Energy Fermilab in Batavia, Illinois. Lawrence later moved to the Argonne National Lab in Hinsdale, Illinois. He also served in the United States Navy, Biological and Chemical weapons testing in Nevada and Sandia Labs in New Mexico. He personally witnessed the detonation of an atomic bomb. He moved to Independence three years ago. Survivors include his wife Dolores Cantrell Hickey whom he marred on July 26, 1974; Sons Richard of Salem, Oregon, Eddie of Bend, Oregon and Robert of Squim, Washington; daughters Teresa of Mesa, Arizona, Kim of Bend, Oregon, Kathy of Bend, Oregon, and Christine of Goodyear, Arizona, along with 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Farnstrom Mortuary, Independence, Oregon.
