LaVonne Delores Walker passed away at Brookdale, Monmouth on December 19, 2015 at the age of 83. She was born May 13, 1932 to the parents of Cecil and Alma Barber, in Aberdeen, So. Dakota, a twin to LaVerne L. Barber. She grew up in Aberdeen, So. Dakota and graduated from Central High School in 1950. LaVonne sang at KABR radio station for the Assemblies of God Children's Program, and taught in Sunday School for three years. She also sang in a mixed quartet. LaVonne left Aberdeen, So. Dakota to go to North Central University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she attended for 3 1/2 years. While there she met Paul A. Clark from Ainsworth, Nebraska, whom she married in 1952. LaVonne also sang in a girl's trio while at college. Their daughter Julie Ann Clark was born to them in 1953.
Paul and LaVonne were ordained in the Assemblies of God. They pastored Freeport Illinois and Mott, No. Dakota. They traveled extensively for 19 years and were known as the Musical Clark Singers. A large tent and large auditoriums were used for their meetings. They also had several musical helpers. They teamed up with Evangelist Vic Coburn, who had a healing ministry, for 3 years.
LaVonne latter moved to Monmouth Oregon where she met and married Walter (Bud) Walker. She has worked in her local church, the Assemblies of God in Independence, Oregon, where she sang in the services, and also volunteering for chapel at the Greenwood Nursing Center. LaVonne has ministered to many through visitation and through the mail.
LaVonne was preceded in death by her daughter Julie Ann Clark; her husband Paul Clark; her second husband Bud Walker; her third husband Lawrence (Larry) Franks; also her twin brother LaVerne Barber, brothers Francis A. Barber, Clyde W. Barber of Commerce, Colorado, brother Kenneth L. Barber of Aberdeen, So. Dakota; and her parents Cecil and Alma Barber.
She was a great prayer warrior, and we are going to miss her.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 30, 10 am - 12:30 pm, followed by a funeral service at 1 pm, both at Farnstrom Mortuary, 410 Monmouth Street, Independence. Memories and condolences at FarnstromMortuary.com.
