Laurence "Joe" Eugene Hall

Laurence "Joe" Eugene Hall, a resident of Independence, passed away on August 1 at the age of 92. He was born June 27, 1926 in Phillipsburg, Kansas to Jonas Lester and Effie Pearl Hall. During World War 2, Joe served in the Army in the South Pacific, earning the rank of Staff Sargeant. After the war, he married Maxine Ruth German on October 16, 1960, in Vancouver, WA, and together they raised a blended family. He worked as an employment manager for the State of Oregon until his retirement. A quiet man, Joe loved reading and spending time with his family, and instilled a love of books into his children. He would often be found volunteering at the Independence Library, where he enthralled many children with his excellent reading.Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Hall, four brothers, one sister and one granddaughter. He is survived by his children, Wanda Heath-Grunder (John) of Lake Almanor, CA; Linda Morgan (Greg Rice) of Eureka, CA; Mike Decker of Monument, CO; Jolene Hall of Independence, OR; four grandchildren, one great-grandson and one great-great-grandchild on the way.Joe's life will be celebrated on Saturday, August 25, 3 pm at the Ash Creek Clubhouse, Ash Creek Mobile Park, 141 S 17th Street, Independence, OR 97351. in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in honor of "Papa Joe" to the Friends of Independence Public Library, 175 Monmouth St, Independence, OR 97351.A Go Fund Me account has been opened to provide the family with a special gift of love during their time of loss. https://www.gofundme.com/love-to-miss-jo
