INDEPENDENCE ~ Zane VanLaningham passed peacefully and quietly into the arms of our Lord on March 16, 2009 surrounded by family. Zane is the youngest son born to Joy and Orville VanLaningham on January 31, 1950 in Exeter, California. Zane always had a smile on his face and enjoyed life. As a young boy his passions were horses and team roping. He developed both skills to become a trainer of team roping horses. Talk to anyone who knew Zane and they would tell you, "Zane knew how to make a rope horse." We are sure that he has picked his colt and is already makin' his first rope horse in Heaven. Zane worked for various ranches in California. After moving to Oregon he worked as a gravel truck driver and farrier. He is survived by his parents, Orville and Joy VanLaningham; his brother and sister in law, Lee and Paige VanLaningham, his sister and brother in law, Kay and Arlin Bidwell, his oldest daughter and husband, Joey and Joe Armstrong and two grandsons, a daughter and her husband, Tiffany and Beau Van Loon and four grandchildren and son, Jason VanLaningham. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate and requests contributions to the ACTRA American Cowboy Team Roping Association crisis/catastrophe fund, benefiting injured team ropers.
