Kim Briggs Westlund
August 27, 1952 - April 17, 2015,
Kim Briggs Westlund's love for her family was not outweighed by her desire to shelter the needy and right society's wrong. After enduring a tough battle associated with a rare form of cancer, Kim passed away on April 17, 2015 at the age of 62.
Kim left behind her mother Deloris, and her stepfather Emmett, and was preceded in death by her father Harold. Born in Monmouth Oregon, Kim attended Central High School and graduated in 1970, and went on to attend Oregon College of Education. Kim's early years were formulated around the family farm where she enjoyed the company of six siblings, Bette Procknow, Jan Oar, Carol Eddy, Darrel Volesky, Dawn Monagon and Debbie Ribble, many farm animals and several stray cats and dogs.
Kim married Samuel Dean Waters in 1974. Though Samuel passed in 1988, her marriage to him left her with a family, and an amazing knowledge of love that she used to guide her children.
In September 1985 Kim moved to Texas seeking a new outlook on life and went to work at the Houston Northwest Medical Center. There she met several friends and established her work career.
In 2001 Kim married William Westlund, the love of her life, a man truly devoted to her, and who relentlessly stood beside her during her illness. Kim and Bill remained in Texas after their marriage and visited family in Oregon and Minnesota many times throughout the years. She always made it a point to attend the annual Briggs family reunion.
Kim was blessed with nine wonderful children, Misty Dawn, Samuel Slade, twins Jason and Joshua, and stepdaughter Jolyn Waters Shollenburg. With her marriage to Bill, it extended her family to include Billy, Steven, Jack and Michelle. Because of her large and devoted family, Kim loved an endless number of grandchildren who will continue her legacy.
Kim's sister Dawn fondly remembers the great childhood the family shared on the farm in Monmouth. "Together we experience many adventures, splendors and challenges throughout life." Kim loved gardening, religion, ancestory.com, antiques, grandchildren and arguments. She was made from an irreplaceable mould. There is no one to compare.
A Celebration of Life will be held August 13, 2015 at the Monmouth Senior Center, 180 Warren Street S, Monmouth, Oregon 97361, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Everyone who knew her is welcome to attend.
Arrangements are in the care of Integrity Funeral Care of Houston, Texas. Please share your memories at FarnstromMortuary.com.
