Kenneth Howard Shreeve

Kenneth Howard Shreeve, 81, of Independence, died December 10th following a battle with cancer. He was born the son of 'Barney' and Adah Shreeve in Dallas, OR, and lived there through his high school years.
After graduating from OSU he served in the US Army for 3 years where he taught guided missile electronics. He worked for Raytheon on the F-4 fighter jets' 'Sparrow' missile; next at Lockheed Missile & Space Company testing 'Discoverer' satellites. He then was responsible for the operation of Oregon State University's Remote Weather Radar Research Facility.
He married Paula Rae Searing of Monmouth in 1962. They relocated to Silver Spring, MD for his next position at the Nation Weather Service in Washington D.C. For the next 26 years, he worked as an electrical engineer at their Instrument Development Laboratory. There was also a one year assignment at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, working with electrical systems on board nuclear submarines.
He retired to Independence in 1991. He logged 650 hours as a private pilot and acquired aerobatic, multi-engine and instructor credentials. He blew glass for atmospheric weather instruments at the Swiss Federal Institute in Zurich, Switzerland. He loved Germany and its culture, visiting frequently and studied the German language at 70 years of age. He continued numerous engineering and fabrication projects for various professional and personal jobs in his home shop.
He is survived by his wife and two sons, David and Douglas.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 21, at 2 pm in his shop.
