Kathleen Hatfield

Kathleen Hatfield of Independence, passed away on August 28, 2018, at the age of 72.  Kathleen was born in Yakima Washington, then moved to Oregon where she lived until the time of her passing.
Kathleen earned her Masters in Education and Special Education certification from Oregon College of Education (WOU).  Kathleen taught elementary school for nearly thirty years, positively impacting the lives of the children she taught. After retirement, Kathleen continued her work first as a substitute, then a tutor, and later volunteering in schools.  She loved to read books to children fostering the love of reading in all of her students. Kathy herself was an avid reader enjoying and sharing books on a wide variety of subjects. Kathleen also enjoyed gardening, nature, and especially spending time at the coast.
Most of all, Kathleen loved her family. She enjoyed spending most of her time with her daughters and grandson.  She was always kind, gracious, and eager to help others. Her love for life, smile, generosity, and kindness will be greatly missed.
Following Kathleen’s wishes, no services will be held. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in her name to the following charities:  Alzheimer’s research, St. Jude’s, Liberty House, or ASPCA.
