Karstein Hynne
August 25, 1975 - October 16, 2013
Indepedence - Karstein Hynne was born August 25th 1975 in Bergen Norway. He was the oldest child of Torleif Hynne and Berit Nesse Hynne. He died on October 16th 2013 in Independence Oregon, as the result of a tragic car accident. He is survived by his mother Berit; his brother Torbjorn (Liv Karin) and their new baby daughter; and his sister Hildegunn (Jorgen) and their 2 boys Aleksander and Arne Kristian. He is also survived by other family and friends in Norway in addition to his "American family" and friends.
At the age of 2 months, Karstein and his family moved to Bo Norway and lived next to his grandparent's farm. Karstein's siblings were born here. Karstein's father Torleif died when he was a teenager and Karstein developed a close relationship with his grandparents. His grandfather taught him to hunt and fish at a very young age and Karstein loved to ice fish with him. He also loved spending time with his grandmother, and would run to his grandmother's house to get fresh bread when he was a child. Karstein bought his grandparent's farm a few years ago, which was his grandmother's wish, and he completely restored and remodeled the house. Karstein was very proud of his home and small farm and the work that he had done there. He loved to show pictures of his farm and invite his American friends and family to come visit and stay there someday.
Karstein's love of sports started in his childhood, and he participated in many types. Karstein's favorite sport was Norwegian Football (which is soccer). He loved to play it as a child and as an adult he loved to follow his favorite teams. When his football team "Skarphedin in Bo" went to Oslo for the "Norway Cup", Karstein had to travel and support his team and watch them play. Karstein had also began to fall in love with American football, and loved to go to the OSU Beaver Football games and watch the NFL on television. As a child, Karstein was also in 4H and received a special honor from this organization.
Karstein was a kind and very helpful person, who was always willing to help someone. He served on the city council and assisted in many community activities including musical festivals and the "Sommarland Cup" (a handball cup in Bo Norway). He loved children, animals, music and dancing. He had a dog and African Grey Parrot back in Norway and he danced with a traditional dancing group in Bo. Karstein had begun to take western dance lessons here. He loved a large variety of music and loved to attend concerts in America.
Karstein worked as a taxi driver before he began to drive a school bus, which he did for years, in Norway. The children loved him. He used to come to the bus stop early on the way to school to play in the snow with the kids, before taking them to school. Many children cried when Karstein left to teach mechanics at the same school he had gone to for his college education. Karstein loved working as a teacher. He was popular with both students and faculty.
Karstein took a one year leave of absence from teaching and was working as a mechanic at Sangarann Farms in Independence. He loved the challenge on working on cherry harvesting equipment, tractors, excavator and other farm equipment. He also loved learning the process of cherry farming and just being on the farm. He loved spending time there with the horses, dogs and Rick and Ann, his "American Family." He had spent the previous two summers on the farm and was so excited to be here in America for one year. He had a true love and appreciation for this country, and had dream of living in America, since he was a kid. His family and friends were so grateful that Karstein was able to fulfill his "America Dream." He was a very special man with an infectious smile, the happiest laugh you have ever heard and a stranger to no one. He will forever be in our hearts.
Karstein's life will be celebrated on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at 1 pm at Farnstrom Mortuary, Independence. Please share your memories and condolences at FarnstromMortuary.com.
