Obituary, J.W. "Bill" Auer October 5, 1923 ~ April 18, 2008 Bill Auer of Monmouth, Oregon passed away April 18, 2008. Bill was born to Fred and Irene Susan Auer and grew up on their Baskett Slough Farm near Rickreall, Oregon. Bill attended both Rickreall and Dallas High School. Like many young men his age Bill joined the military at the start of WWII and spent his tour of duty in the Navy on tugboats and minesweepers along the west coast of the United States including the Aleutian Islands. On June 26, 1943, Bill married the love of his life, Maurine Margery Wells, of Salem, Oregon. Following the war Bill and Maurine moved to the "Family Farm" south of Monmouth on the Luckiamute River. Bill farmed for many years then worked until retirement at Teledyne Wah Change in Albany, Oregon. Although Bill loved to hunt and fish in his younger years he loved wildlife and the beauty of the forest in its natural state. He also enjoyed music and greatly enjoyed when friends would stop by for an impromptu jam session. Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Maurine Auer. Daughters, Joanne Bucholz and Judy Van Valkenberg of Monmouth and Carol Latorra of Black Hawk, Colorado and son, John W. Auer Jr. of Independence, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. At his request, there will be no memorial service.
