Judith (Judy) Ann Powers
February 18, 1940 - December 18,2022
Bom to Tom and Laura Connell, in Hillsboro, Oregon, Judy was the middle child, after her brother
Tom Jr, and before her brother Bill (who proceeded her in death).
She was formerly married to Ray Adams, the father of her two daughters, Lisa (Adams) Cripps and
Kathy (Adams) Soderstrom. She married Gene Powers in 1979. When she married Gene. she gained a
step daughter, Teri (Powers) Cregson and a step son, Alan Powers. Sadly Gene passed away in 1997,
ald she never remarried.
Judy was a teacher for Central School District. She taught at Oak Grove, Campus, Monmouth and
Henry Hill elementary schools until she retired. She touched many chrldren's lives, taught her student's
children and stayed connected with a number ofher students as adults.
She loved all animals, especially her cats and her llamas. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading,
gardening and spending time at the coast with family. You could almost always find her outside
working on the property. Riding her big mower, using the weed eater. pushing the small mower or
working in her garden lf she wasn't outsrde she.d be busy sewing, knitting, baking or some other
activity. She was a hard worker who liked to stay busy. She enjoyed traveling, going and seeing her
grandchildren, or having them visit her,
When she had the grand kids visiting, she always came up with something fun and different for them to
do. She had no qualms taking the grand kids to the Luckiamute river in Helmick park to swim and
play. Letting them make mudslides down to the water despite getting filthy in the process. They loved
it and loved her for it.
She was always up for thrift store shopping, finding new treasures, and having adventures. She enjoyed
playing games, and doing jigsaw puzzles. She loved pie and ice cream. and was always up for a
chocolate sundae when traveling.
She believed in giving to those in need, especially locally. She donated vegetables from her garden and
gave monthly donations to local food banks, volunteered at the Humare Society, had a number of other
charities that she liked to give to and she sewed for many years with the Common Threads group in
Buena Vista.
The word that everyone uses to describe mom is "sweet". She was a great listener. sell1ess,, loving,
giving, kind and stubborn. She believed in the good of people and was always optimistic. She was the
glue that held the family together.
She leaves behind her daughters Lisa and son-in-law Clayton, Kathy and son-in-law Shawn, Teri and
son-in-law Vince, son Alan and daughter-in-law Cindy. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren. l0
great grand children and 3 great, great grand children.
Graveside service will be at the Buena Vista Cemetery on February l8th at | :30. A Celebration of Life
will be held afterwards at the Monmouth Senior Center. We welcome those who knew her to feel free
to attend one or both of these occasions.
