John D. O'Neil

John Daniel O'Neil, 43, of Jefferson passed away Sept. 2.
John was born in Lebanon, moved to Salem in 1970 and graduated from North Salem High School in 1985. He dabbled in the mill work, car sales and funeral service before he became an investigator for Oregon Department of Human Services. In 1994 he moved to Jefferson.
John was a member of the Jefferson Fire Department where he was a captain, a Jefferson school board member, treasurer of the volunteer association of JRFPD, assistant Jefferson High School football coach, 555 bowling classic fundraiser Oregon Burn Center, and a T-ball coach.
John enjoyed camping, country music, the Oregon Ducks and Green Bay Packers and had a true love for serving and helping anyone in need. He volunteered at the Oregon Burn Center and St. Jude. He also liked crabbing, clamming, deep sea fishing and horseback riding.
John is survived by his wife, Cindy Louise (Foht) O'Neil of Jefferson. They were married Sept. 14, 1991, in Salem. He is also survived by his sons, Tyler Marc O'Neil and Kolby James O'Neil of Jefferson; daughter Karli Jean O'Neil of Jefferson; stepdaughter Brandy Gale Foht-Taylor of Silverton; parents Pat and Sharon (Emerson) O'Neil of Salem; sister Tina (O'Neil) and husband Jason Smith of Salem; brother Patrick and wife Morgan (Fair) O'Neil of Salem; three stepgrandsons; and 16 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by Richard A. O'Neil, Bertha Mae Burns, Cecil Emerson, Jean B. Woodmansee and Arthur M. Copeland.
A service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Jefferson High School. Private graveside will be at the Lebanon IOOF Cemetery.
He was a man with a huge heart who loved his family, friends and community.
