Obituary, John "Jack" Hal Grimm Jr. October 2, 1928 ~ April 5, 2006 INDEPENDENCE: John Hal Grimm, Jr. also known as "Jack" passed away at his home, on Wednesday, April 5, 2006. Jack was born in Spokane, Washington on Oct. 2, 1928. His early years were spent growing up on his parent's farmstead in Northern Idaho and later in Marysville, Washington, and graduated from Marysville High School. His Military Career included: a tour in the Army, The United States Naval Reserve and over twenty years in the U.S. Air force. During his career, he received the following awards and decorations: Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Good Conduct Medal with five Bronze Loops, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal Japan, National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star and Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with four Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters. Dads interests included building model military type planes and breathtaking ships and schooners. He loved nature and travel. He enjoyed going camping and was a great storyteller. He was an avid reader and enjoyed westerns and science fiction. Our fondest memory of dad was on a family reunion campout in the state of Oregon, where all his children and grandchildren were gathered around him. Jack met and married his present wife, Marie Martin in 1980. They met in Eugene, Oregon. In their later years they retired to Independence, Oregon where they enjoyed their grandchildren, dogs and gardening. Jack was preceded in death by his parents June and John Hal Grimm, and his brother Dale. He leaves behind his loving wife, Marie Grimm, his children, daughter Ana Maria Diaz and her husband, Rodolfo, of Thousand Oaks, CA; son, Hal Ramon Grimm and his wife Dana, of Maple Valley, WA; daughter, Josephine Paulson and her husband, David, of Monroe, WA; daughter, Michelle and her husband Lee Kimber, of Lancaster, CA; stepson, Gerald Marten and his wife Sharon, of Oregon City, Oregon; stepson Dale Martin, and his wife Diane of Oregon: Many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and last but not least, his beloved dog "Patsy". The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Hospice and all the caregivers for their care and compassion. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the American Cancer Society. Committal Service will be 1:00 PM Tuesday April 11, 2006 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland with full Military Honors. Memorial Service will be held the same day at 2:00 PM at Farnstrom - Gable Funeral Chapel 225 NE 80th Ave in Portland with a reception following.
