Joan Barbara Crawford Jones January 30, 1931 - April 17, 2006 MONMOUTH - Joan C. Jones, 75, of Monmouth, Oregon died at home on April 17, 2006 after long-term health complications. Joan was born on January 30, 1931 in Cook County Hospital, Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of John W. and Kathryn Skrobisz Crawford. The family moved to Grand Ronde, Oregon in 1944, shortly after her father, John, was killed in a logging accident on Spirit Mountain. Kathryn then relocated the family to Salem, where Joan attended Parish Junior High and Salem High School On October 10, 1948, Joan married Stanley W. Jones of Brooks SWR Jones pioneer family. After starting their family, Joan and Stan moved to Monmouth in 1954, where both were active in the community. Some of Joan's activities included Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, PTA meetings, and square dancing. Stan worked at Mountain Fir Lumber Company 1953-1992 and was active in the Monmouth Volunteer Fire Department. In 1963, the family moved to Central Howell, where they owned and operated the Central Howell Gas Station and Grocery Store. In 1971, they moved back to their house on Jackson Street in Monmouth. At this time, Joan became an Avon Lady. She loved going door-to-door, dropping off Avon books and getting to meet and visit with neighbors. She also worked a number of years for Lloyd and Wanell Coffman at Radio Shack/Independence Electric Appliance. In 1972 they moved across town to Sacre Lane, where she resided until her death. Her hobbies included oil painting, camping, reading, garage sales, shopping, shopping, shopping, and giving "un-birthday" presents. Where do you think all that stuff she bought went? Joan was preceded in death by her father, John 1944, mother, Kathryn 1990, sister Rene' Burns 1992, and daughter, Lonore Lucinda Jones 1967. She is survived by her husband of 57+ years, Stanley Jones; children, Robert W. and Darla Andrews Jones of Monmouth, Dian Jones and Mark Forster of Silverton, Barbara Jones Boggs and Manfred Smetana of Reedsport, and Cathy Jones-Foster and Rich Foster of West Salem; 11 grandchildren and 7 1/2 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thurs., April 20, 2006 at Farnstrom Mortuary, Independence. Graveside interment will follow at Pioneer Memorial Cemetery in Brooks. Memorial contributions can be made to Willamette Valley Hospice or the American Heart Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Farnstrom Mortuary, Independence.
