James "Darrell" Elliott
August 5, 1943 - October 12, 2013
Independence - James "Darrell" Elliott passed away on October 12, 2013 in Salem, at the age of 70. He was born August 5, 1943 to Leroy and Catherine (Reed) Elliott in Newport, Oregon.
Darrell graduated from Toledo High School in 1961. He married Jacquelyn Thompson on March 20, 1965, and together they raised three children. A member of the National Guard, he worked as a log scaler for the Columbia River Log Scaling Bureau for 43 years, retiring in 2008. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Independence, participating as a deacon and as an AWANA leader. His interests included reading, woodworking, beads, hunting, and camping and traveling with his family.
The passion of Darrell's life was his beautiful wife, Jackie. He was a well-loved and loving father and husband, whose chief delight was his family. He made a difference by working with kids. He lived his dream.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents and brother Louis Guthrie. Surviving him are his wife of 48 years, Jackie; children Jill (Todd) Means of Monmouth, Jamee (Shannon) Meeker of Independence, Jeffrey (Shawnee) Elliott of Beaverton, and 9 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 19, 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 1505 Monmouth Street, Independence. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church AWANA Program.
